Paris Hilton is going from jailbird to songbird with a role in a movie musical about organ harvesting. Hilton will co-star with Paul Sorvino and Alexa Vega in "Repo! The Genetic Opera," which begins shooting in September in Canada, Hilton's publicist, Elliot Mintz, said Tuesday.
It will be Hilton's first role since she completed a 23-day stay in jail for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case, Mintz said.
The horror rock opera, based on a stage musical, is set in a plague-ravaged future where people can purchase new organs on the installment plan from a corporation called Geneco. The catch is that if the payments stop, the organs are repossessed.
Hilton will portray the fame-seeking daughter of Geneco's owner (Sorvino).
"We saw many actresses for the role, and Paris sang it better than all of them," producer Carl Mazzocone told the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety in Monday editions.
The director, Darren Lynn Bousman, also praised Hilton.
"I have auditioned at least 30 actresses for this role - Paris came in and owned it," he told Variety. "She is this role."

Newly released former jailbird Paris Hilton is celebrating after receiving two nominations for the 2007 Teen Choice Awards, including Best Female Reality/Variety Star for TV show The Simple Life.
Hilton is one of many stars to receive more than one nomination ahead of the August awards ceremony.
Among the others are Jessica Alba, who is up for awards including Best Movie Actress: Action Adventure for the role in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Female Hottie, and Justin Timberlake, whose nominations include Best Male Artist.
Others to receive multiple nominations include Jessica Biel, Shia LaBeouf, Katherine Heigl, Steve Carell and Orlando Bloom.
The 2007 Teen Choice Awards ceremony takes place on Aug. 26.
Heiress Paris Hilton has been released from jail in Los Angeles after serving approximately half of her 45-day sentence for violating her probation in a drink-driving case.
The 26-year-old smiled broadly as she walked by herself past photographers and camera operators.
She made no comment before joining her parents in their car.

Speaking to Ryan Seacrest of E News, the Simple Life star said that her gratitude has gone up so much for even the basic things she has been lucky enough to have.

The 26-year-old added that she is yearning to give her dad a big hug, but the prison rule forbid her to even do that.
Hilton also said that she is not a criminal or someone dangerous, and that it is hard but she is getting ‘stronger everyday’.
“I am behind glass and I want to give my dad a big hug and they won't even let me do that. That's how the rules are; you have to be behind glass. I'm not a criminal, I'm not dangerous, so it makes me feel like that. It's hard but I'm stronger everyday,” she said.
'The Simple Life' star Paris Hilton is reportedly "doing very well" since entering jail to begin her 23 day sentence on Sunday.
Hilton's lawyer told reporters outside the jail yesterday that she is "using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better".
Attorney Richard A Hutton said: "Her attitude is: 'I'm going to come in here, I'm going to do my time, get it over with, and I'm going to show the world who I really am'."
"This is unjust, unfair, and she really is, unfortunately, a victim of a system that we pride so much on being fair. But for Paris Hilton it is not," he said.
Hutton said that Hilton had been segregated from the general population of the prison for safety reasons.
"Because of who she is, they had no choice - and believe me, we are more interested in her safety more than anything else - but they had no choice but to place her in administrative segregation."
Hilton reported to jail late on Sunday after attending the MTV Movie Awards at the weekend.
